Asus has just released the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for the PadFone 2. The device was announced back in October and is available in limited countries around the world, with most major markets still on the waiting list.

The build date is December 4 and as expected, the update brings all the Project Butter smoothness, Google Now assistant, etc. All Asus customizations are still present, of course. You can upgrade only over-the-air for now.

We are happy to see Asus kept its promise for the Jelly Bean and released it on schedule. Let’s hope it keeps this policy in the future.

The quad-core Krait-powered PadFone 2 is rather expensive gadget, but is surely one of the best smartphone packages with that PadFone station turning the thing into a full-featured tablet.

ASUS has unveiled a new docking station for the Nexus 7 on their Japanese website and is expected to go on sale some time this month for 3,480 yen ($42).

The docking station uses the golden connectors on the side of the Nexus 7 to interface with it. It has a microUSB port on the back along with a 3.5mm audio jack, which lets you charge or connect the Nexus 7 to a computer as well as output audio from it.

There are a couple of provisos, though. The docking station only works if you have Android 4.2 installed on the Nexus 7 and if you want to output just audio from the 3.5mm jack on the back you will have to plug the docking station to a power outlet.

The Android 4.2 (still Jelly Bean) was released for the (ASUS-made) Nexus 7 slate back-to-back with the new LG Nexus 4 smartphone and Samsung Nexus 10 tablet two weeks ago. Soon after the users noticed December was missing from the Contacts app.

Well, the Google developers have finally squashed this bug (among others) with the Android 4.2.1 release. Available for all three devices, the update is already seeding globally.

The new 4.2.1 OTA update weighs just 1.1MB and makes December reappear in the Contacts app and fixes the Bluetooth issues lots of users were experiencing.

If you didn’t get the notification yet, you should just go and check for updates manually – it should be there waiting for you.
