A leaked ROM has revealed that Samsung is preparing to announce a Plus version of the Galaxy Pocket.

The Samsung Galaxy Pocket will soon be replaced with a Plus edition

Carrying the model number GT-S5301, there isn’t much yet known about Galaxy Pocket Plus except it’s going to run Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. This should bring a whiff of hope to current Galaxy Pocket owners, as they might get a taste of the ICS action eventually.

The leaked ROM dates back to October and is specially built for Belgium users, meaning the device should break ground in Europe fairly soon. Specifications are yet to be disclosed, but the little fellow would do nicely with a processor bump and a bit more RAM.

There seems to be no shortage of decent Android phones at impressively low prices in China made by local companies. Today, Huawei announced the T8830, a dual-core ICS droid for $104.

As you can imagine, the specs are nothing earth-shattering, but they actually sound pretty good, considering that we’re talking about featurephone-like pricing. The Huawei T8830 packs a 4″ WVGA screen with Gorilla Glass, dual-core Mediatek MT6517 chipset, 512MB RAM and a 3.2MP camera. It’s running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

Not too bad, but small local brands are providing tough competition, promising a gig of RAM, 8MP camera and Jelly Bean at a $100 price point. As with other such phones, the Huawei T8830 and its competitors are tough to get outside of China, though.

Samsung Germany used its Facebook page, to share some valuable info, regarding the Galaxy S Advance Jelly Bean update. The device will receive Android 4.1.2 in January. The update will be supplied both through the Kies software and over the air.

Previously the update was rumored for November. Samsung announced that the Galaxy S Advance will skip ICS altogether and move straight to Jelly Bean instead. The company has also committed to delivering Jelly Bean to a long list of devices in the “coming months”.

It seems Samsung is really keen on keeping its customers happy and bringing the latest software to them. And given that after the update the S Advance will probably cannibalize some of the S III mini sales, the company deserves some recognition for this.
